Whiskey Review: Jeffersons Old Rum Cask

Brand: Jefferson’s Old Rum Cask
Distiller: Unknown
Proof: 90.2
Age: 8 years + 15 months finishing in Gosling’s Family Reserve Old Rum casks.

Label Notes:

  • Mature bourbon finished in very old rum casks
  • Twin Wood
  • Very old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
  • Very small batch

Color: Amber

Nose: Muted musty oak. There’s not much here for me, which is a disappointment but not surprising at

Palate: Caramel, honey, molasses.

Finish: Molasses, oak, mint.

If I had to use one word to describe this bourbon it would be “boring”. But that’s just me. I suspect there are many people who would consider this a wonderful bourbon because it’s “smooth” – which for me generally translates to thin, watery, having little or no spice, and little finish. Well, this is extremely smooth, and all those other things. It tastes good, but there’s no spice and no complexity at all.
